What is probiotics and what are the benefits?

The benefits of probiotics
Probiotics are the living microorganisms that you can bring to your body with the use of fermented foods or supplements containing them. Here are some of their properties:

Help balance the beneficial gastrointestinal bacteria:

Probiotics are considered to be beneficial bacteria. These bacteria balance the intestinal microbial population. Disrupting the balance means that there is a large population of harmful bacteria and a low population of bacteria and inadequate bacteria. This is a disequilibrium caused by illness, taking medications, such as antibiotics, having a bad diet, and so on. Consequences of disturbing the balance of intestinal microbial population include digestive problems, allergies, mental problems, obesity, and so on. Probiotics are safe for most people.

Helping to prevent and treat diarrhea:

The ability of probiotics to prevent diarrhea or reduce its severity is known. Diarrhea is one of the side effects of taking antibiotics. Antibiotics can affect the balance of the beneficial and harmful microorganisms of the intestine. Several studies have shown that probiotic consumption is associated with a reduction in the risk of diarrhea caused by antibiotics. Probiotics also help treat other types of diarrhea that are not related to antibiotics. A study of 35 people found that certain strains of probiotics can reduce the duration of infectious diarrhea by 25 hours. Strains such as Lactobacillus rhamnosus, Lactobacillus cassei and Bacardi saharomyose yeast reduce the risk of diarrhea more than other probiotics.

Probiotic supplements improve some mental illnesses:

Studies that link intestinal health to mental health are on the rise. Animal and human studies have shown that probiotic supplements can improve some mental disorders. The study found that consumption of Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus strains for 1 to 2 months could improve anxiety, depression, autism, obsession and memory. In a 6-week study on 70 workers involved with chemicals, workers who consumed 100 grams of probiotic yogurt per day or used probiotic capsules every day, depression, anxiety and stress, and their general health improved. The use of probiotic supplements for 8 weeks reduced the amount of depression and C-protein protein (from inflammatory symptoms) and hormones such as insulin in people who took probiotics compared to those who did not take probiotics.

Probiotic specific strains help maintain heart health:

Probiotics help keep heart health healthy by reducing harmful cholesterol (LDL) and blood pressure. The specific bacteria producing lactic acid reduce cholesterol by digestion of bile in the digestive system. Bile is a fluid that mainly contains cholesterol and helps digestion. Probiotics prevent gallstones from re-absorption in the digestive system (and prevent the entry of cholesterol into the blood). Probiotics can also reduce blood pressure.

Reduce the severity of eczema and special allergies:

Probiotic specific strains can reduce the severity of eczema in children and infants. In a study, babies fed with probiotic milk recovered their eczema compared to babies fed with nonprobetic milk. Another study was conducted on children whose mother was taking probiotics during pregnancy. The risk of developing eczema in the first two years of life fell by 83%. However, there is no strong link between probiotics and the reduction in the severity of eczema, and more research is needed to prove this relationship. Some probiotics also reduce inflammatory responses in people who are allergic to milk or dairy products. However, evidence is weak and more studies are needed.

Help reduce symptoms of certain gastrointestinal disorders:

Certain types of probiotic strains of bifidobacterium and lactobacillus have improved the symptoms of those with mild wound colitis. In another study, the effect of probiotic supplements of coli nissle (Escherichia coli nisel) was as effective as the drugs for the improvement of patients with ulcerative colitis. However, probiotics seem to have little effect on the symptoms of Crohn's disease. Probiotics can also be useful for other bowel disorders. Initial research shows that probiotics can relieve symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome. Probiotics have also been shown to reduce the risk of severe necrotizing enterocolitis by 50%. Necrotizing enterocolitis is a lethal outbreak in premature infants.

Helping to lose weight and belly fat:

Some probiotics prevent the intake of fat in the intestines. Then fat is excreted through feces instead of absorbing the body. Probiotics can last a long-term sense of satiety in humans, help burn more calories and reduce fat storage. This effect is partly due to the increase of certain hormones such as GLP-1. Probiotics can also reduce the weight directly. In a study, women who took Lactobacillus rhamnosus for three months had a 50% reduction in weight loss than women who did not take this probiotic.

Although I've studied at Isfahan University of Technology, I believe that having academic education is NOT the only way of gaining knowledge and reaching to success, but just one of thousands. I enjoy trying new things much and try not to be one-dimensional person.
